Who we are
Fragments Gallery is the showcase for classical and contemporary works by George Giannis, a sculptor and art restorer based in Melbourne/Naarm.
George grew up in North Carlton after his family moved to Melbourne from Greece. He has decades of experience restoring art works, historical buildings and completing commissioned projects.
While studying drawing and painting in Florence in the mid-1990s, George discovered sculpture and began his life-long journey creating and working in marble. After much perseverance he found a master sculptor in Carrara who took him on as a pupil.
He studied with Giovanni Bedini and was based for four years in Pietrasanta, the spiritual home for sculptors who travel from around the world to study and work in its famous studios.
George’s love of classical Greek and Roman art has been a constant joy and inspiration throughout his life. Working in clay, marble and bronze, he produces fragments of some of his favourite works while also creating new pieces.
